Sowore and #takeitback movement celebrate acknowledgement of June 12th as Democracy day
The #takeitback movement and the convener, Omoyele Sowore aspirant for 2019 presidential election has come out to express their feelings for the heroes like MKO ABIOLA and others that fought and died for their fathers land.
SOWORE AND TAKEITBACK MOVEMENT CELEBRATE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF JUNE 12 AS DEMOCRACY DAY, DECLARE THAT NATIONAL MONUMENT TO HEROES LIKE ABIOLA AND GANI WILL BE ESTABLISHED AND CALL FOR THOSE WHO ANNULLED THE ELECTION TO BE STRIPPED OF NATIONAL AWARDS
We celebrate the acknowledgement by the Buhari government that June 12, 1993 marked an epochal moment in Nigeria’s democracy as the date when Nigerians expressed their democratic will in the freest and fairest elections ever conducted in our nation.
The importance of June 12th cannot be overemphasised: a date that is imprinted in the mind of every Nigerian; the date democracy triumphed for a golden, magnificent moment only to be snuffed out by self-serving usurpers.
Our movement and its leader, Omoyele Sowore, have consistently called for the establishment of June 12, 1993 as Democracy day. We are glad to see that the Buhari government has finally acceded to the will of the Nigerian people.

We also welcome the posthumous recognition of two titans of the Nigerian pro-democracy movement - Chief MKO Abiola and Chief Gani Fawehinmi with the GCFR and GCON awards. These two men are heroes to whom our nation will forever be indebted.
While we celebrate the recognition of these great men, we must remember the many heroes and heroines who remain forgotten and unsung. We pledge that the government that we will lead will establish a National Monument to Heroes that will celebrate forgotten Heroes and Heroines like Pa Alfred Rewane, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, Chima Ubani and countless others, who lost their lives in the struggle for a better Nigeria.
By acknowledging that the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election was a great travesty that denied the Nigerian people of their freedom of choice, the Buhari government must take the next logical step which should be to hold the usurpers who created the crisis, accountable. Honouring the true heroes of June 12 should necessarily require that all those whose actions led to the annulment of that pivotal election should be stripped of their honours.
We will wait to see whether the Buhari government will have the courage to take the necessary steps to redress this assault to the Nigerian people by rescinding the national honours bestowed on those who annulled the June 12, 1993 election. Should they fail to show the needed courage, we make a solemn pledge to the Nigerian people that our government will redress those wrongs.
