Most readers of this email feel more like “aliens” and “exiles” in society today than than Christians did in previous generations. But nothing’s new under the Son for the church of the living God, and an ancient letter stands ready to help us prepare, and even thrive: Peter’s first epistle. Look at the Book is John Piper’s effort to help us learn to read the Bible for ourselves, ten minutes at a time. The camera is on the text, not the teacher, and the collective effect of walking all the way through a book of the Bible, verse by verse, every word on the screen, is powerful. John now has worked all the way through 1 Peter, and we have the full series grouped in five parts (one for each chapter) for personal and group study. Maybe now’s the time to give Look at the Book a fresh look. Work straight through, or take it a chapter at a time:

According to Tim Keller, humans throughout history, and in every corner of the world, have evidenced an “instinct for prayer.” Prayer is one of the most common phenomena of human life. Even deliberately nonreligious people pray at times. Studies have shown that in secularized countries, prayer continues to be practiced not only by those who have no religious preference but even by many of those who [say they] do not believe in God. Keller notes that one study found “nearly 30 percent of atheists admitted they prayed ‘sometimes,’ and another found that 17 percent of nonbelievers in God pray regularly.” There are many people who do not pray even in times of extreme danger. Breaking: PDP merge with R–APC and over 30 parties change name to CUPP

After merging, PDP change name to CUPP according to Channel TV on Monday ahead of 2019 general election. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Monday formed an alliance with over 30 political parties and announced a new name called Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP). According to ChannelsTv, the announcement followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the leaders of the merging parties. This according to reports was to win the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming 2019 election.
