I congratulate the family and friends of Chief Abiola and Chief Gani Fawehinmi for the honour, Olusola Alexander Oke

Past Ondo State governorship candidate has come out to congratulate the family of Chief MKO Abiola and  thank president Muhammad Buhari for the recognition of June 12th as Democracy day.

The federal government, today, confered the highest national merit awards of GCFR on Chief Moshood Abiola, the presumed winner of June 12, 1993 election and also declared June 12 of every year as the new Democracy Day in line with the belief of many well meaning Nigerians.

Indeed, the decision could not have come at a time better than now; it is long overdue. June 12 symbolises the birth of democracy in Nigeria. It broke the barriers of religion and ethnicity, it was an election in which Nigerians spoke in one voice without any consideration for primordial sentiments of color, tribe and religion.

That great election represents the Nigerian spirit in all of us. The spirit that unites; the spirit of oneness of purpose and drive. The genuine spirit of democracy.

I commend President Buhari for these great honours that were confered on these great men of symbol and value. It is not only long overdue, it is important and a valuable part of our national history.

Also, I thank President Buhari for the posthumous award confered on Chief Gani Fawehinmi, the tireless masses advocate and Babagana Kingibe.
